I'll Take Pot Pouri for $100 Alex…

It's been a crazy week and I have been slammed so I don't have a lot to post today.

I did do an interview a couple weeks ago which recently aired on XRAY.fm on a program called The Filmmaker Happy Hour with Phil Busse. It is available https://soundcloud.com/the-non-profit-hour/the-filmmaker-happy-hour-s1e2-kelly-baker t if you want to listen to it.

I seem to have done a bunch of interviews lately.

Here is one I posted a couple weeks ago for The Ghost of Hollywood https://theghostofhollywood.com/

And a reminder the I'm the Keynote Speaker at the McMinnville  Short Film Festival. The interview they did with me is at https://mcminnvillefilmfest.org/blog/kelley-baker-angry-filmmaker"

There's some other stuff going on which I will let you know about as things get closer. Until then you can purchase my books right here on my website.

At McMinnville. Last week was crazy busy and I'm still recovering. I was the Key Note Speaker at the McMinnville Short Film Festival.

It's an amazing festival. I saw some really great films, met a lot of wonderful filmmakers (and others) and had some awesome wine. That's one of the benefits of having a film festival in wine country.

Because I've been immersed in films for the last four days I decided that today's blog post is going to be some important quotes from a few of the people I interviewed for my 2nd book, The Angry Filmmaker's Survival Guide Part Two: Sound Conversations With (un)Sound People

Sound is an excellent carrier of emotion. And film is about emotion. - Gary Rydstrom, Sound Designer - - Saving Private Ryan, Jurassic Park (winner 7 Academy Awards)

Sound is NOT the enemy! - - Lee Haxall - -Editor, Crazy Stupid Love

Sound is hugely important. They say that its 50% of the film. I think its more than 50%. Without good sound no matter how good the picture is you’re going to have people walking out. - - Gregor Hutchison – Post Production Supervisor

Hire the best production mixer you can afford. Have him/her shoot a lot of location environments, crowd reactions, alternate TV coverage if possible, anything that would have to be replaced or added later that is unique to the set. - - Bob Hackl – Post Production Supervisor

It’s ironic that in extreme low-budget filmmaking they pay the least attention to the sound department, and that’s where they don’t have the money to fix it in post. - - Peter Kurland, Production Sound Recordist

It’s impossible to duplicate the emotion of a scene in ADR. We've all seen films that have massive amounts of ADR and the performance isn’t there and the feeling isn’t there. - - Michael “Gonzo” Gandsey - Production Sound Recordist

In my mind, dialogue is king, if you can’t understand what they’re saying then the movie is a waste of time. - - David A. Cohen - Dialogue Editor

I would rather see no music than music used improperly. - - Ken Karman, music editor - Forrest Gump

Good sound goes unnoticed, bad sound ruins a film. - - Dan Olmstead, re-recording mixer – Cecil B. Demented

If you’re interested in learning more about audio for film you can purchase a copy of The Angry Filmmaker Survival Guide Part Two: Sound Conversations With (un)Sound People.

Make Good Sound.
