Re-Post - Jeff Bezos Doesn't Need Your Money
It's important to support Independent Artists. I know it's easier to just go to Amazon and get what you want but Amazon doesn't pay us shit!
Last month I got a royalty check from Amazon for One Cent! Really, One Cent. I asked myself what the fuck could they have sold of mine that would generate One fucking Cent!
I still don't know. I'd appreciate it if you'd help me and other Independent Artists out by letting your friends know we're out here and you can buy from us directly.
“In an era when billionaires wage space races rather than help those in need, I am struck by the simple desires of Baker’s characters. From Mick who just wants a prom date who doesn’t cheat on him at the after party to Henry who hopes he can save his relationship during a free work trip to tropical paradise, Kelley Baker’s characters seldom get what they want, yet carry on stoically in an unsympathetic world. As the title suggests, fans of satire, you are in the right place, and Kelley Baker, you are certainly in the right line of work. - Melissa Gregory Rue, Filmmaker, Live Out Loud
I need your help.
It won’t cost you anything, unless of course you wish to purchase a book, which would be great.
My newest book Dennis Barton Is A Bastard And Other Stories is up on my website and I’m hoping you will all take a moment to check it out.
Many of you like my work and have purchased books and DVD’s in the past. For that I’m grateful. Now it’s time I expand my reach and support myself with my writing.
As you know, I’m not a fan of Amazon. My books are available there because of their presence in the marketplace and for your convenience. I prefer people buy my books through my website whenever possible. When you buy from an Independent Artist they use that money to support themselves, make new art. Not go up in to space.
With all the dark clouds circling, it’s refreshing to taste art that speaks of the goodness in people, and Kelley Baker’s work does just that. While “Dennis Barton is a Bastard” might not sound like a wash of lighthearted joy, the characters in these extra short and extra moving stories are so well-meaning and sometimes misguided that it utterly breaks your heart. Every little bit is so visceral you might as well be inside these strange lives and odd events, and no matter how sad or funny or maddening, you turn the pages so quickly because you just have to know what happens next. - Darcy Miller, Filmmaker, One Bird At A Time
Please help me spread the word about all of my books.
Are you on Facebook, Twitter, Good Reads, Instagram, or any of the other sites/apps out there that I’ve never even heard of? Please post a comment and a link to the book on my website.
Share the things I post on your own pages. If you can say something nice about my work or me, please do. Let your friends know about me.
All of my books are independently published in the same way that all of my films are independently distributed. It all comes down to me. I have no budget for any promotion because I’m footing the bill on all of the publication costs. Here’s something else you can do to help me.
Write a review and post it on Amazon (#fuckjeffbezos) and any other book related forum/site/group you belong to.
Five Rules of Book Reviewing on Amazon
You do not have to have purchased a book on Amazon to leave a review there
You do not have to read the whole book to leave a review.
Reviews can be as simple as, “Loved this one so much! Can’t wait for the next one!” They don’t even have to be spelled correctly!
Authors need reviews on Amazon to get better placement in the algorithms. (And a crazy amount of other things you wouldn’t believe).
Algorithms are not reading or grading your reviews. They just look at numbers.
Please take 5 minutes and leave a review on Amazon. It really does make a difference. (Stolen from www.aletheakontis.com") This isn’t all about me (even though I like to think it is). It’s about any independent artist. We can and should support each other.
Please support Independent Artists by sharing their work on your own pages. It helps all of us.
Oh yeah, and #fuckjeffbezos! Thanks.
